Overview
PJ Dick self-performed concrete for the construction of foundations for 27 new wind turbines for NextEra. The turbines are the tallest in the United States, with 18 measuring 800 feet and seven at 700 feet. The team used a mobile concrete batch plant to produce concrete for the project. The larger turbine foundations totaled 750 yards apiece, requiring a 5500- psi mass concrete mix to complete a monolithic pour. To maintain the necessary temperature, the team placed between 100 and 150 pounds of ice per yard. One pour required three to four 50-foot refrigerated trucks filled with 20-pound party bags. In total, the team poured 19,109 cy of concrete from June 14, 2022, to September 7, 2022.
