Nearly all of PJ Dick’s projects include some aspect of green construction. Having built a Living Building Challenge Building as well as all levels of LEED certified buildings, we’re ranked among the Top 100 Green Contractors by Engineering News-Record, a renowned magazine of the construction industry.
Our team includes LEED-certified professionals who work with owners and design teams to evaluate the feasibility of sustainable construction materials and systems. Throughout the project, they maintain stringent documentation that owners need to obtain LEED certification.
We’re also members of the Green Building Alliance, Western Pennsylvania’s leading authority on environmentally responsible construction.
Passive House Construction
With certified Passive House construction professionals and experts in airtight construction, PJ Dick has the knowledge and skill to build facilities that achieve net zero energy. Our teams understand the stringent regulations for construction and implement quality control methods to verify the performance of superinsulated envelopes, airtight construction, high-performance glazing, thermal-bridge-free detailing, and heat recovery ventilation.
Frick Environmental Center
Living Building Challenge and LEED Platinum
PJ Dick managed construction of a new environmental center for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. The Center uses 40% less energy than a typical building of its size, captures and reuses rainwater, filters and treats all wastewater on-site, and has on-site solar panels.
PJ Dick managed construction of what was once dubbed the greenest skyrise in the world: a LEED Platinum, 802,000-sf, 33-story skyrise. The tower features an integrated double wall system that allows for natural air infiltration, a solar chimney (one of the few buildings globally to have one), and a chilled beam system.
PJ Dick constructed several LEED buildings on this commercial campus, including a renovated historic factory turned office building, two new office buildings, and two multi-family residential facilities.
